BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – The Islamic Architecture Symposium 2026 continued with its third and final panel session, moderated by Ar. Hajah Hafizah binti Dato Paduka Haji Mohd. Nor, an architect from the Department of Technical Services at the Public Works Department.

In attendance for the third session was the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the Ministry of Education, Awang Aliudin bin Haji Abdul Rahman.

The session commenced with the first presenter, Awang Haji Amir Hisham bin Haji Masri, Acting Director of the Department of Mosque Affairs, who delivered a presentation titled ‘Islamic Architecture and Guidelines for Mosque Construction in Negara Brunei Darussalam’.

This was followed by the second presenter, Professor Dr. Ooi Keat Gin from the Academy of Brunei Studies (APB), Universiti Brunei Darussalam. His presentation was titled ‘Abdel-Wahed El-Wakil and Chien Chung (Didi) Pei and Brunei Architecture: Showcasing the Confluence of Heritage, National Identity, and Sustainable Communal Well-being’.

The final presentation, titled ‘From Vision to Legacy – Designing Sacred Spaces’, was delivered by Ar. Dayang Siti Rozaimeriyanty binti Dato Seri Laila Jasa Awang Haji Abdul Rahman from Eco Bumi and Partners.

The third panel session concluded with an interactive Question and Answer segment, providing participants with the opportunity to engage directly with the panelists and exchange insights into the topics discussed.

Organized by the Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah in collaboration with the Ministry of Development, the symposium serves as a premier platform to bring together architects, scholars, professionals, expatriates, students, and key stakeholders.

Concurrently, the event aims to foster knowledge-sharing on Islamic architecture as an approach that seamlessly integrates aesthetic values, ethics, green innovation, and the Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB) philosophy, while preserving environmental sustainability and the cultural heritage identity of Negara Brunei Darussalam.
