Bandar Seri Begawan, Wednesday, 13 September 2023 – Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (BKISHHB), Prime Minister’s Office, in collaboration with the Brunei Darussalam Astronomical Society (PABD), organised a Telescope Operation Training Workshop.
A total of 57 participants, comprising officers and staff of BKISHHB, attended the workshop held at the Special Gallery of BKISHHB.
The workshop aimed to introduce and familiarise participants with the theoretical and practical methods of operating a telescope, while also broadening their knowledge of the wonders of the universe and the signs of the greatness of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala.
The one-day workshop was divided into two sessions, namely a briefing session and a practical session, delivered by Yang Mulia Haji Mohamad Azri bin Haji Awang Ibrahim, a member of PABD.
During the briefing session, participants were given an overview of the history of telescopes, the differences between various types of telescopes that use lenses and mirrors, the components of a telescope and their respective functions, as well as the proper procedures for setting up and operating a telescope.
Meanwhile, during the practical session, participants had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience using several telescopes provided by PABD at the open area of BKISHHB. The session aimed to familiarise participants with the correct techniques and methods of telescope operation, including locating celestial objects, image focusing, manually and automatically tracking celestial objects, as well as the proper storage and maintenance of telescopes.
The Telescope Operation Training Workshop concluded with a certificate presentation ceremony to the participants, presented by Yang Mulia Dr. Awang Haji Mohammed Hussain bin Pehin Penyurat Haji Awang Ahmad, Director of BKISHHB, followed by a group photography session.
