In an effort to enhance preparedness and competency in responding to fire-related emergencies, a total of 25 officers and staff members of Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah participated in a three-day Fire Marshal Training organised by the Fire and Rescue Department, Ministry of Home Affairs, from 15 to 17 September 2026.
The training course was conducted at Balai Bomba Bandar Seri Begawan and Pusat Latihan Lama, Ibu Pejabat Bomba dan Penyelamat.
The programme aimed to provide participants with exposure to fire safety preparedness and preventive measures, while enhancing their knowledge of the important roles and responsibilities of a Fire Marshal in preventing fires at an early stage and reducing the risk of fire incidents. These efforts are intended to ensure the safety and protection of lives, property and the surrounding environment.
Throughout the Fire Marshal Training Course, briefing and training sessions were conducted by the Corporate Communications Division of ‘A’ Operations Branch, represented by Deputy Station Officer Rustam Efandi bin Haji Metusin and firefighter AB1412 Khairul Asri bin Aliamat.
The main components of the Fire Marshal Training Course included the duties and responsibilities of a Fire Marshal, basic knowledge on the causes of fire, types of fire extinguishers, as well as procedures and techniques for extinguishing fires. Participants were also briefed on procedures for rescuing victims through demonstrations, as well as the preparation of an action plan in the event of a fire.
In addition, participants undertook a written assessment to evaluate their understanding and knowledge gained throughout the briefings and training sessions.
Practical exercises were also conducted to enable participants to apply the knowledge and theories gained through simulations of actual emergency situations. These included a Dark Room Exercise, which tested participants’ ability to respond and move safely in dark conditions; a Fire Drill Exercise involving building evacuation and team coordination during an emergency; exercises on identifying different types of fire extinguishers and practical fire-extinguishing techniques; as well as a Fire Drill Exercise involving the simulation of an injured victim.
The Fire Marshal Training Course is aimed at enhancing awareness of fire safety among officers and staff of Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, while further strengthening cooperation between agencies and organisations in responding to emergency situations.
Through the training, participants are expected to be better prepared to carry out prompt, efficient and effective actions in the event of a fire-related emergency, thereby contributing towards a safer workplace environment.
